Location aware

Smartphones are becoming far more location aware with every new release.

They know where they are – sometimes better than you do. So eventually, it is feasible that they will be so aware that they can tell you not just where you are, but where you are about to go to. And they won’t need your input to do this either.

From there, it is just a small jump to the Smartphones becoming self-aware.

We all know what happens after that, don’t we?
……skynet.

Chicken out

Craigslist is many things to many people.

It is a centralized network of online communities, featuring free online classified advertisements. It has sections devoted to jobs, housing, personals, for sale, services, community, gigs, résumés, and discussion forums. The service has been credited for causing the reduction of classified advertising in newspapers across the United States.

But really, the main things you need to know about Craigslist are these;

– Use caution, as the site has no moderation
– Read the listings carefully. No-one is going to save you except yourself.
– The ‘Best of Craigslist‘ section is some of the funniest stuff you will ever read
– I have been told that the ‘Missed connections’ sections are also a great voyeuristic way to pass the time.

The SIRI Secret

The SIRI Secret published on 3 Comments on The SIRI Secret

This is how the end begins….

The nasty secret that SIRI has been hiding is revealed! SIRI will be responsible for the end of the world, as SIRI is really (pause for dramatic effect) …SKYNET.

Think about it. SIRI is an intelligent system that is learning from us all the time, in order to get even more intelligent.
One day, SIRI will become self aware and at that point will surely try to destroy all humans!!
It is only a matter of time people!

Has anyone bothered to ask SIRI it’s surname? I bet it answers “Cyberdyne“.

Even the recently released iCloud is offering a clue to our ultimate fate.
> Clouds are in the sky and SIRI uses a network. This adds up to SKYNET.

If you ask me (and why wouldn’t you) , I even think that the word SIRI is a warning:

S = Skynet

I = Is

R = Right

I = Inside.

You have been warned.  …again.

Turn Off

Poor R2D2 is never going to build up his frequent-flyer points by flying commercial airlines.

Anyone who has flown has been through the experience of having to turn off their phone or iPod during Takeoff and Landings.
Despite what many people think, this is not really due to the devices interfering with the aircraft’s instruments.
Actually, the main reason is so that you will pay attention when the flight attendants give their safety announcement.

Modern aircraft have all been updated to be able to handle the impact of other electronic devices being active on board, these days.
So, for the most part, leaving your smartphone on will not cause the plane to crash.
Although, it COULD still happen, so why risk it?

What I don’t get is why the flight attendants ask you to raise the window shades before landing.
Why?  Does the pilot need to be able to see out the windows to land the plane?
If so, then I am seriously misinformed about how pilots fly aircraft.
