It's OK. No one on facebook liked him anyway.

The facebook poke is a funny old thing.

It does so much and so little. It is always there, but sometimes you just can’t be bothered touching it.
Some people absolutely love a good poke. They are up for it anytime – day or night.

For others, however – well, they tried it once and it just was not as satisfying as they had expected.

Will the poke ever go out of fashion?
Or will there always be people out there, somewhere, who will always be poking…?

In the future, you will be able to touch the internet directly.

As technology advances, we seek new and better ways to interact with computers and data.
The earliest method  of interaction with computers was the mouse, and this is still the most popular way of working with a computer to this day.

Voice interaction has been tried with varying success.
Joysticks & control pads work well, but mainly for gaming environments.

But the “latest and greatest” method is via a touch screen. Users are able to almost touch the data that they want to interact with.
But soon, even this will be outdated.

The next stage is touted to be a fully immersive experience, such as virtual reality, or via holographic displays, such as those seen in movies like “The Minority Report”. Which, you have to admit, is pretty cool.

If the fun of a touch screen experience shows us anything, it is that being able to massage your data by actually sticking your fingers in, is going to be pretty fantastic. but only as long as the experience goes one way.

I would hate to get anything stuck on my hands after visiting a less than desirable website…

3D TV mythology

At last! We know why development of 3D television is not progressing well!

We keep getting teased with the promise of the glorious viewing future that 3D television is going to bring to our lives.
For the past few year, we keep getting glimpses of what we could have soon. But the “soon” keeps getting moved.
It is starting to look like this whole 3D TV idea is too hard to figure out.

One of the failings that many commentators pickup on, is the need for special glasses in order to see the 3D effect.
This has led to articles telling us it will flop, even before it has begun.
The glasses are an annoyance & in many cases, users complain of headaches after a few minutes using them.

That said, researchers from Berlin’s Heinrich Herz Institute claim to have found a way to deliver 3D without glasses.
They have developed a set-top camera that tracks a viewers’ eyes and aligns 3D images accordingly.
Sadly,  it can only work with one pair of eyes at a time at present, so you cannot share the viewing experience with friends.

So, the race is on to see who can develop  this ground-breaking medium successfully first.
Toshiba appear to be the front runners so far, but let’s not get too excited just yet…

All I know is that I am waiting with baited breath for it to be ready and in my lounge room, so I can finally watch Judge Judy the way it was intended – with her all up in my face!

Virtual Fighter

You can level up in a game, but not in real life.

If you play games a lot, you need to remember the following things:

  • Just because you are the most awesome guitarist in Guitar Hero, it does not mean you can automatically rock out on the real thing.
  • If you can get the lowest stroke count in Wii Golf, then don’t think you can join the PGA tour.
  • Resident evil is not a training film to help you handle the pending Zombie Apocalypse.
  • Wasting all the bad guys in Splinter Cell will not make you a master of espionage.

Oddly though, Mario Kart WILL teach you how to drive. Go on – Give it a go!
