The Ghost Party

Oh Man! This party looks totally dead!

Sorry, I had to put a lame joke in here. This comic kind of calls for it.
Ghosts are a pretty popular topic in comics and many, many bad jokes exist where they are the main focus of the gag.

I like drawing ghosts and decided that I would just make a comic with a whole heap of them.
It is a very safe bet that this is probably not the last time you will see ghosts in a comic from me, either.
This comic has some well-known ghosts in it, and some “pretenders” who still kind fit the theme.
Think you can name them all?

OK then smart-arse, tell me their names. Just put them into the comments below and I send the first five correct people a ghost sketch.
Five more random people will also get one, but only if they get all the names right.

You can also get extra bonus points (equivalent to 700 internetz) if you tell me who is missing from this comic.

When the iceman calls

Superheroes must be the one of the most feared types of people for tech support staff.

They are magnets for having “computer issues” (as I have already covered previously here) and want everything sorted out right away. They are always complaining that the problem has to be fixed immediately, as it is a “matter of life or death”, or “the fate of the world depends on it”, or “a giant robot is about to crush my skull”.

Well boo fricken hoo! Seriously! Either they are too dumb or overpowered to use their computers in the first place, or they are super geniuses always tweaking settings and adding unauthorised custom software. (Yeah, I’m looking at you batman……)

Artists note :
This joke seems so obvious, yet when I researched it*, I was surprised to find this had not been done yet. The closest I could find was this comic, so I thought I had better give it some props.
If you find another version of this gag somewhere, especially with the iceman in it, please add a link in the comments. I would love to see it.

*Ok, I know what you are thinking – yes, I do research things on the google machine. I am all teknological and stuff.

Angry Flash

This time it’s personal…..

There has been a lot of talk on the Interwebz about the lack of support for Flash on the iPad. We all came to accept it missing from the iPhone, but expectations were high that the fabled iPad would support it. But not so.

And due to this, there have been numerous jokes made about it online.
Obviously, I have thrown my hat into the ring with the comic above. But there have been many other great ones also created over the past few weeks.

Two of my favourites are:

> This episode of Foxtrot, by Bill Amend. It is a great strip and this comic is very well done in it’s approach to this joke.
> A more subtle but hilarious version by Ben McCormick, who creates the strip “Reality Amuck
> Also, while creating this comic, I could not resist doing a very lame iPad joke about flash. Sorry  😛

Apple has said all along it didn’t believe Flash was a good mobile technology and resisted supporting it since the first iPhone was released.
They prefer HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, and H.264 (all supported by the iPhone and iPad) that are open and standard, while branding Adobe’s Flash to be closed and proprietary.

But despite the Apple openly not supporting Flash on their mobile products without a reason, Adobe spent a lot of time to rectify the situation at there end.
Adobe Systems put in the effort to change its technology, and prepared solutions for building Flash applications that run on the iPhone.

Then Apple changed the terms of its iPhone 4.0 software developer kit license, which effectively blocked Adobe’s move, meaning that Adobe ceased future development of the Flash-apps-on-iPhone technology.
The result of all this is an Apple-Adobe battle of which I, for one, will be keen to see the outcome.

Looking for a cool new online comics to read?
Well you are in luck, because I have two to recommend to you today! I really like the art in these comics and I hope you do to.

Go now, and check out:

Toonhole” is a very cool site, which has comics drawn randomly by a bunch of different artists.
The artists include: Mike Nasar, John Martinez, Ryan Kramer, Chris Allison & Aaron J Paetz.
WARNING – it is not always safe for work.
Lead Paint Comics” is a strip which is about boobs, barfing meat golems and girls with time portals in their crotches. It is written by Mike Cornnell and Dana Wulfekotte
Split Lip” is a horror webcomic site, drawn by Sam Costello & various artists. There is a good range of stories on the site, and if you are a horror aficionado, I think you will like it immensely.

Dark Night

Where were you when the lights went out?

The world recently took part in Earth Hour, which started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million homes and businesses turned their lights off for one hour to make their stand against climate change. Only a year later and Earth Hour had become a global sustainability movement with more than 50 million people across 35 countries participating.

My favourite thing about it, is that many places celebrate by having a massive Fireworks display, which to me, seems to go against the whole movement somewhat. Both Sydney & Seatlle did that this year. But I do like the pretty lights….

I support the movement due to the public awareness it raises, but I personally feel that it still allows the average person to participate and then forget about what they can do to help save the planet, for another 12 months.
I truly hope I am wrong, and the attitudes of the peoples of the world begin to change.

Anyway, while the lights were off, I got creative! I made some shirt designs and stuff, to help make the world brighter and more fun. Yay for me!
They make excellent gifts and will also increase your coolness quotient by a factor of 22.
Also, the money raised will help fund me to do some art classes and make better/funnier comics, which is something that I am sure you all want.
(yes john, that comment is aimed at you)
